Retratos reales

Personal project

2016

A few days after the proclamation of Philip VI as the new monarch, the City Council of Ciudad Rodrigo made public the rules of a competition of portraits of the king, in order to choose the portrait that presided over the plenary hall of the city council. Under the title of Royal Portraits, the selection of the competition gave way to an exhibition consisting of 12 portraits that took place in the Municipal Hall of Culture during the month of September 2014. Based on the specificities of this genre, where the value of the work lies in the dignification of the image of the monarch, most of the images selected for the exhibition could be considered a failure and, therefore, could be interpreted as a form of involuntary or accidental satire.
